What is UVDTF?
UVDTF (UV Direct to Film) is a transfer process designed for decorating suitable hard surfaces. Your artwork is printed in full colour with white ink and a clear varnish layer before being transferred onto an application film. The finished transfer can then be applied directly to your product without a heat press.
What can I apply UVDTF transfers to?
UVDTF works on many smooth, hard, non-porous surfaces including mugs, tumblers, water bottles, glass, acrylic, metal, suitable plastics, jars, packaging, promotional products and much more.
We always recommend testing the transfer on your chosen product before committing to a large production run, as coatings, surface finishes and materials can vary.
Do I need a heat press to apply UVDTF?
No. One of the biggest advantages of UVDTF is that no heat press is required.
Simply peel away the backing, position the transfer, apply it to the surface, firmly press or squeegee the entire design down and carefully remove the carrier film.
What is a UVDTF Rolling Gang Sheet?
Our Rolling Gang Sheet allows you to upload multiple designs and build a continuous UVDTF sheet to the exact length you need.
Instead of buying a predetermined sheet size and potentially paying for unused space, the sheet grows as you add your artwork, meaning you only pay for the UVDTF you actually use.

Do UVDTF transfers have a white backing?
Yes. White ink is printed behind the colour where required, allowing vibrant designs to be applied to both light and dark coloured products.
This is one of the major advantages of UVDTF compared with processes that rely on the colour of the product underneath the print.
Does UVDTF have a gloss finish?
Our UVDTF transfers use CMYK colour, white ink and clear varnish, producing a vibrant print with a premium glossy finish.
The varnish also allows extremely fine details within a design to be reproduced without needing a traditional sticker-style solid background.
What resolution should my artwork be?
For the best results, we recommend supplying artwork at 300 DPI at the finished print size wherever possible.
Low-resolution artwork can result in pixelated or soft prints. Our builder includes an AI upscaling tool that may help improve some lower-resolution images, but starting with good-quality artwork will always produce the best result.
Should my artwork have a transparent background?
Yes, unless you specifically want the background to be part of your finished transfer.
We recommend using high-resolution PNG artwork with a 100% transparent background. Check your files carefully for unwanted pixels or backgrounds before submitting your order.
Do I need to mirror my UVDTF artwork?
No. Do not mirror your artwork.
Upload your design exactly as you want it to appear on the finished product. We take care of the production process.
Can UVDTF print small text and fine details?
UVDTF is capable of producing extremely fine detail, making it excellent for logos, illustrations, small lettering and intricate artwork.
However, extremely tiny isolated elements and very fine lines can become more difficult to transfer successfully. If you're unsure whether your artwork is suitable, contact us before ordering.
How do I apply a UVDTF transfer?
Remove the backing film and carefully position the transfer onto your product. Once it touches the surface, avoid repositioning it where possible.
Firmly press or squeegee across the entire design, paying particular attention to small details and edges. Slowly peel away the carrier film while checking that every part of the design has adhered correctly.
Are UVDTF transfers dishwasher safe?
We do not currently recommend advertising finished products as dishwasher safe unless you have carried out your own testing on the exact product you're using.
Different mugs, bottles, coatings and dishwasher conditions can produce different results. For maximum longevity, we recommend hand washing decorated drinkware and avoiding prolonged soaking.
